When you read this book, you will make many assumptions.
You will assume you are reading about a jealous wife and her obsession with her replacement.
You will assume you are reading about a woman about to enter a new marriage with the man she loves.
You will assume the first wife was a disaster and that the husband was well rid of her.
You will assume you know the motives, the history, the anatomy of the relationships.
What an incredible way to start out my 2018 reading year!
The Wife Between Us completely blew me away. Unpredictable – chilling and suspenseful. Just what I look for in this genre of books. It didn’t lull and I didn’t find myself bored and skimming. I felt compelled to get to the bottom of all of the things that were happening.
While reading, though I had to remember three things:
Not only was the main character, Vanessa a very unreliable character. I found myself constantly going back and forth to reread the things she was saying NOT because I skimmed and missed something important but because it was so hard to tell what was real and what wasn’t real. What happened? What DIDN’T happen? Those are all questions you find yourself asking because of Vanessa and I loved it. Truly ate it all up. Nom nom nom.
The tricky thing with a lot of books like this one is plot holes. Typically, thrillers have so much going on that the author forgets to close up a lot of the major plots taking place. Nope – not with this book! Not a single loose thread is left. I really enjoyed how everything tidied up well at the end. The authors did an exceptional job with that.
The Wife Between Us was intense and packed a huge punch. Just when you thought one thing, another thing happened. Twist after twist after twist and non of it was over done or done for dramatics. It was all so nice and smooth that once you start, you just can’t put it down.
